Captain Bryan Dees
Bryan Dees has cultivated a profound passion for the sea since 1982, with his lifelong journey starting in his teenage years.
He began by joining the U.S. Sea Cadets, an experience that included attending Naval boot camp and dedicating his summers to serving aboard various U.S. Navy and Coast Guard ships.
This strong early foundation quickly led to formal service when he officially joined the U.S. Coast Guard at age 18.
His first assignment was an 18-month tour on a Buoy Tender stationed in Astoria, Oregon, where he gained essential experience as a Seaman, performing watch-standing, serving as a helmsman, and assisting with the critical maintenance of navigation buoys.
Dees’s Coast Guard service then took him to the extreme environment of the polar region aboard the icebreaker Polar Star.
After a period of training the deck force in underway operations, he embarked on a voyage to Antarctica, spending two demanding months operating in the “ice.”
Following his active-duty service, Dees continued his commitment to maritime safety and leadership by joining the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in 2001. He rose to the rank of Vice Division Commander and earned several awards for his excellence in water operations, notably serving a seven-year tenure as a liaison for the SeaFair regatta patrols.
Most recently, Bryan Dees has further solidified his maritime expertise by completing his OUPV Captain’s License, a testament to his lifelong commitment to boating and safety.
Complementing his surface credentials, he is an active PADI and SSI Divemaster, currently assisting instructors in various scuba classes. This role allows him to leverage his decades of experience to teach and mentor new divers, further demonstrating his dedication to professional standards in all aspects of water operations, both above and below the surface.
